WHY BURMA NOW?

The situation in Burma is worse than ever with the continued detention of Aung San Suu Kyi, the crushing of all attempts to restore democracy and the ongoing assault on the ethnic peoples.  Murder, rape, forced labor, religious persecution, forced relocation and the burning of ethnic villages continue.

When one member of the Body of Christ Suffers, we all suffer.  We as Christians in America can no longer ignore what is happening inside Burma.  Our brothers and sisters are suffering under one of the most paranoid and brutal regimes in the World and few people know the truth about what is happening.

DAVID EUBANK KNOWS

Eubanks married his wife Karen in 1993, graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1995 with a M. Div. and began service with Karen in Thailand and Burma in 1996. . HEAR DAVID EUBANK EXPLAIN WHY IT IS RIGHT TO BE INVOLVED IN BURMA NOW

AND UNDERSTAND WHY IT IS ESSENTIAL YOU ATTEND THIS MEETING.

Dave will discuss the following topics:  human dignity, the restoration of democracy, the release of political prisoners, ethnic rights and a durable peace, public health, an end to religious persecution, an end to forced labor and use of humans as minesweepers, protection of the environment, control of narcotics & regional security

Under the leadership of David Eubank, the Free Burma Rangers are working for freedom in Burma; spiritual freedom and a fruit of that which is political freedom.  Their mission is to give help, hope and God’s Love to people of all faiths and ethnicities in Burma.  They train and send relief teams of medics, teachers, pastors and others to provide emergency assistance to the Internally Displaced People [IDPs] of Burma who are under attack by the Burma Army.

 BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Ethnic pro-democracy groups are trained and sent into conflict areas to provide medical assistance, shelter, food, clothing, educational materials and other humanitarian aid.  The teams also operate a communication and information network inside Burma that provides real-time information from areas under attack.  The Information Network of Burma documents, reports and disseminates the stories of human rights violations and provides an early warning system for attacks by the Burma Army, resulting in improved logistics and medical evacuations.

The FBR has trained over 100 multi-ethnic relief teams and there are 49 full time teams active in the Karen, Karenni, Shan, Arakan and Lahu areas of Burma.  The relief teams have conducted over 350 humanitarian missions of 1-2 months into the war zones of Burma.

On average between 1000-2000 patients are treated per mission with 2,000 more people helped in some way.  Since 1997, the teams have treated over 350,000 patients and helped over 700,000 people.  Free Burma Rangers also support evangelism, church work, boarding schools and education programs for Burmese ethnic minorities living inside Thailand.

Free Burma Rangers along with their Sister organization, Christians Concerned for Burma [CCB] work to support the people of Burma through prayer, evangelism, advocacy and action.  Their belief is that God’s Love is alive in Burma and its light will not be put out.  Though the people are suffering under an oppressive dictatorship, they have not given up hope for positive change.
